Bringing 25 years of clinical practice and hospital management experience to his consulting work, Mark Smith has an extensive background in peer review, quality, Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE), criteria-based privileging, low-volume practitioners and emergency department call coverage.
Mark is a board-certified surgeon and an active faculty member of the Vascular Surgery Section at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center. Before joining MorCare’s predecessor in 2012, Mark was a vascular and general surgeon in Palm Springs, California for 25 years. During that time, he held a number of medical staff executive positions, including president, chief of surgery, and medical director of cardiac surgery.
Mark received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his residency training at the University of Kansas Medical Center and had a fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Linda Chappell provides senior-level consulting for MorCare’s clients. She’s well-known for her longtime expertise in quality and utilization, medical staff organizational management, and healthcare management, and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Before she joined MorCare’s predecessor, Linda was the senior vice president of quality management at Cook Children’s Health Care System in Fort Worth, Texas. She was responsible for integrating quality management initiatives in departments throughout the health system.
Previously, Linda was a senior associate with the Health Advisory Division of BDO Seidman LLP, where she specialized in helping organizations meet regulatory requirements from The Joint Commission and the NCQA. She also oversaw quality and risk management program design, physician and hospital organizational development, and medical staff organization management.
Linda was also a regional vice president for Transcend Services, a large health information management outsourcing firm, and was a vice president for quality management at Advocate Health Care, based in Downers Grove, Illinois. In addition, she was president of NAMSS and was an NCQA surveyor.
Drawing on 26 years of healthcare industry experience, Dana Myers brings a unique perspective to his case management consulting work. He helps current and prospective MorCare customers navigate MorCare Care Management and achieve successful care management outcomes with practical solutions.
As a former director at Memorial Health in Savannah, Georgia, he understands the operational and regulatory complexities that healthcare organizations face today. Dana also knows how to contribute to the improvement of the patient care process, because he provided direct case management services to patients in myriad settings.
Dana’s background in preparing and executing strategic plans; developing and overseeing budgets; ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation agency standards; making process improvements; and collaborating with multiple hospital departments enables him to develop comprehensive plans for realizing sustainable and measurable results quickly.
Dana joined MorCare’s predecessor in 2008. In addition to providing consulting services, he works with the MorCare Care Management sales, implementation and development teams. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from Radford University in Radford, Virginia, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, respectively.
